DTF Heat Press Instructions

Follow these instructions to achieve a strong, smooth, and long-lasting DTF transfer application. Heat presses and fabrics can vary, so always test one transfer before beginning a full production run.

Recommended Starting Settings

• Temperature: 300–320°F

• Pressing Time: 10–15 seconds

• Pressure: Medium to firm

• Peel: Follow the peel method supplied with your transfer

• Final Press: 5–10 seconds

These settings are general starting recommendations. If your order includes different instructions, the instructions provided with your transfer should always take priority.

Step 1: Prepare the Garment

Place the garment flat on the heat press. Make sure the pressing area is clean, dry, and free from seams, buttons, zippers, or other raised areas.

Use a pressing pillow or pad when necessary to create an even pressing surface.

Step 2: Pre-Press the Fabric

Pre-press the garment for 3–5 seconds to remove moisture and wrinkles. This creates a smooth surface and helps improve transfer adhesion.

Step 3: Position the Transfer

Place the DTF transfer on the garment with the printed design facing the fabric and the clear carrier film facing upward.

Measure the placement carefully before pressing. Heat-resistant tape may be used to prevent the transfer from moving.

Step 4: Apply the Transfer

Press the transfer at 300–320°F for 10–15 seconds using medium to firm, even pressure.

Do not move the heat press during application. Uneven temperature or pressure may cause sections of the design to lift.

Step 5: Peel the Carrier Film

Peel the carrier sheet according to the instructions supplied with your transfer. Depending on the film, it may require a hot, warm, or cold peel.

Peel the film slowly and smoothly from one corner. If the design begins lifting, stop peeling, replace the film, and press again for a few additional seconds.

Step 6: Final Press

Cover the design with parchment paper, butcher paper, or a finishing sheet. Press again for 5–10 seconds.

The final press helps improve adhesion, durability, and the finished appearance of the transfer.

Fabric Considerations

Different fabrics may require adjustments:

• Cotton: Usually handles standard DTF settings well

• Polyester: May require a lower temperature to reduce scorching or dye migration

• Blended fabrics: Test before completing the full order

• Heat-sensitive materials: Use caution and follow the garment manufacturer’s recommendations

Always check the garment’s care label and perform a test press when possible.

Troubleshooting

The transfer is lifting

Increase the pressure slightly or press again for a few additional seconds. Also confirm that the garment was pre-pressed and the correct peel method was followed.

Parts of the design did not adhere

The pressure may have been uneven. Check for seams, collars, pockets, buttons, or raised areas interfering with the heat press.

The garment has a press mark

The temperature, pressure, or pressing time may be too high for the fabric. Reduce the settings and use a pressing pillow or protective sheet.

The colors changed on polyester

This may be caused by dye migration. Lower the pressing temperature and use a shorter pressing time when appropriate. Always test polyester garments before production.

Care Instructions

For the best durability:

• Wait at least 24 hours before washing

• Turn the garment inside out

• Machine wash in cold water

• Use a mild detergent

• Avoid bleach and harsh chemicals

• Tumble dry on low or hang dry

• Do not iron directly over the design

• Do not dry clean unless the garment and transfer are confirmed compatible
